On Wednesday, the temporary capital of Aden witnessed the conclusion of a vital training course focused on empowering professionals in public health, specifically in basic applied epidemiology. This initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and supported by the Middle Eastern Network for Community Health (EMFENT), engaged 21 doctors, surveillance coordinators, and response teams from liberated governorates. The training spanned three months and included both theoretical and practical elements.
Dr. Qassem Baheeb, the Minister of Public Health and Population, emphasized the importance of developing national competencies that yield high-quality outcomes. He stated that these professionals will enhance the understanding of the health situation and provide necessary recommendations. Dr. Baheeb noted that the epidemiology program has made significant strides in systematically training personnel, transforming aspirations into tangible results.
The Minister also announced plans to establish a health training institute aimed at accommodating various capacities within an institutional framework. This institute will serve as the cornerstone for qualitative training and will expand its focus to include data surveillance and analysis. Furthermore, the upcoming initiatives will broaden the scope to incorporate personnel related to animal health and environmental issues, aligning with the Ministry’s vision to strengthen preventive measures.
The successful completion of this training course marks a significant step towards improving public health capabilities in Yemen. By investing in the education and training of healthcare professionals, the Ministry of Public Health aims to build a robust health system that can effectively respond to current and future challenges.
