Completion of specialized media training courses for 100 journalists in Marib.

Specialized Media Training Concludes at Saba University

The Saba University in Marib concluded four specialized media training courses today, successfully equipping 100 journalists with essential skills. The participants included students, graduates from the media department, and professionals from various media institutions in the region. The courses focused on key areas such as peace journalism, digital journalism, radio and television presentation, and podcast production.

Comprehensive Training Over Five Days

Over the span of five days, the university’s Vice Presidency for Student Affairs organized these courses in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Funding came from the “Masam” project, which aims to clear landmines in Yemen. Participants engaged in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enhancing their professional capabilities. They learned to adapt to new technologies, improve their media work, and produce content using modern artistic and production techniques.

Empowering Journalists for the Digital Age

Dr. Ali Al-Rimah, the Vice President for Student Affairs, emphasized the importance of the training. He stated that the knowledge and skills gained would empower journalists to engage with the digital era effectively. This training prepares them to produce content that meets contemporary challenges and aligns with ongoing developments in the media landscape. Al-Rimah highlighted the potential of these journalists to become a driving force in establishing the media of the future.

Addressing Media Challenges in Yemen

During his address, Dr. Al-Rimah urged journalists to combat misinformation spread by Houthi militias. He pointed out that these groups use their media tools to distort facts and create division among the Yemeni people. He stressed the significant national responsibility resting on journalists to present the truth without manipulation and to expose the misleading narratives and dangerous ideologies promoted by the Houthi media.

A Call for Unity Among Journalists

Dr. Al-Rimah called for unity among journalists, urging them to present a cohesive front against the extremist ideas and propaganda of the Houthi militia. He encouraged media professionals to use journalism as a tool for awareness and coexistence among people, while also exposing the crimes committed by these groups.

Showcasing Training Achievements

The concluding ceremony saw the presence of Dr. Othman Al-Aradah, the university’s Secretary-General, Dr. Nasser Aram, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and several other deans and faculty members. Participants showcased their training outcomes, reflecting the knowledge and skills they acquired during the courses.

Honoring Support for Educational Initiatives

The university presented a shield to the Masam project in recognition of its support for various educational and training programs at the university and its contributions to the community. Mr. Reteeb Horn, the project’s Deputy Administrative Director, received the award.

This initiative highlights the university’s commitment to enhancing media professionalism in Yemen, equipping journalists with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of modern media.
