Aden Hosts Training on Community Participation and Health Sector Development
In Aden, the temporary capital, a specialized training course focusing on community participation and the strategy for health sector development commenced today. The General Directorate for Community Participation organizes this event at the National Center for Rehabilitation and Training under the Ministry of Health, with support from UNICEF.
Training Objectives and Participants
The four-day course aims to impart knowledge to 23 participants, including directors from the Ministry’s general departments and health office managers from the liberated provinces. The curriculum covers various topics such as community participation, health sector development and reform, decentralized primary healthcare, the health directorate system, the current status of each province, and enhancing strengths to develop services with community involvement. Additionally, it addresses the standards and specifications required for program implementation.
Emphasizing Self-Reliance in Health Sector Development
Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh, the Minister of Public Health and Population, highlighted the importance of self-reliance in developing and building an effective health system reliant on its financial resources, including community contributions. He urged the community to embody the principle of partnership with the health sector, sharing in management, decision-making, planning, monitoring, and supervising the health sector transparently.
Minister Buhaibeh emphasized the need to bridge the gap between the community and the health sector and to foster collaboration on health-related matters.
Calls for Actionable Recommendations
Dr. Mohamed Bin Rabid, the General Director of the General Directorate for Community Participation at the Ministry of Health, encouraged participants to adopt actionable recommendations that can significantly impact the health sector’s development. Shafiq Al-Rahman, the Aden office director for UNICEF, stressed the course’s importance in strengthening the health system, developing capacities, and generating demand for and response to services.
This training marks a significant step towards enhancing Yemen’s health sector through strategic community involvement and capacity building, aiming for a more inclusive and effective healthcare system.
