On Wednesday, local citizens successfully thwarted an attempt to kidnap three girls in Ibb Governorate, an area currently under the control of the Houthi militia. This incident highlights the alarming level of insecurity plaguing the region.
According to local sources, the girls were traveling on a public transport bus in the Al-Sabil area, located west of Ibb city. One of the girls cried out for help, shouting, “Kidnapping! Kidnapping!” This desperate plea prompted nearby residents to act quickly and rescue the girls.
Witnesses reported that dozens of citizens gathered at the scene. They took immediate action by breaking the bus windows to prevent the kidnapping. Meanwhile, Houthi militia members arrived but allegedly attempted to stop the locals from intervening.
Sources indicate that the militia tried to protect the perpetrators, claiming the incident was “security-related” and that the bus belonged to security forces under their control. This assertion sparked widespread outrage among residents, who accused the militia of trying to shield those involved.
In recent weeks, Ibb city and several of its districts have experienced a surge in kidnappings targeting children and young girls. Local sources attribute these crimes to gangs linked to Houthi leaders, who maintain a tight grip on security in the governorate.
This alarming trend raises serious concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of local authorities in protecting citizens. As the situation develops, community vigilance remains crucial in combating such threats.
