China Evacuates 10,000 Due to Heavy Rain in Guizhou

Chinese authorities have evacuated approximately 10,000 residents following heavy rainfall that swept through parts of Guizhou province in the southwest of the country over the past two days. This severe weather has caused widespread flooding in several cities and towns, prompting urgent action to mitigate risks.

Affected Areas from Flooding

According to Xinhua News Agency, multiple regions have suffered due to the flooding, with notable impacts in the cities of Qianxi, Zunyi, and Changshun County. Continuous rainfall has affected all 30 towns in Qianxi, while five towns experienced exceptionally heavy downpours. This situation requires immediate attention to prevent further escalation of risks.

Evacuation and Rescue Operations

Authorities have conducted extensive evacuation and rescue operations. They have successfully evacuated 1,377 individuals from 491 families and rescued over 50 people who were stranded. Additionally, more than 3,000 residents from around 1,000 families in villages behind the Bankong Reservoir were relocated after a power outage disrupted reservoir operations. Furthermore, 4,582 individuals from 1,322 families in Qiandongnan have also been evacuated, with efforts ongoing to evacuate 21,754 individuals from 7,213 families.

Official Flood Warnings Issued

The Ministry of Water Resources and the Meteorological Administration of China have issued a red alert, the highest warning level, cautioning about increased risks of flash floods in parts of southeastern Guizhou until this evening. This alert underscores the need for additional precautions to safeguard citizens and property.
