In a significant event held today, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Yemen hosted a reception to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 68th anniversary of the establishment of Yemeni-Chinese diplomatic relations.
During the event, Yemen’s Minister of Education, Tariq Al-Akbari, highlighted the deep-rooted and historical relations between Yemen and China. He reminisced about the ancient Silk Road’s role in connecting the two civilizations and appreciated China’s ongoing support for Yemen. Al-Akbari praised China for its commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity and for backing efforts to restore security and stability across Yemen.
The Chinese Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires in Yemen, Zhao Cheng, reflected on the robust historical ties binding the two ancient civilizations, facilitated by the Silk Road. Since establishing diplomatic relations 68 years ago, China has implemented over 100 cooperative projects in Yemen, with thousands of Chinese experts lending their support. Tragically, nearly 100 of these experts have sacrificed their lives in the name of friendship between the two nations.
Zhao reiterated China’s objective and fair stance on the Yemeni issue, pledging continued support in humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts. He expressed China’s readiness to intensify cooperation under the “Belt and Road” initiative and other international efforts to transform Yemen’s potential into a driving force for development.
Furthermore, Zhao called for an end to targeting ships in the Red Sea, emphasizing the need to protect the safety of the supply and production chain and the international trade system. He urged collective action to safeguard the Red Sea’s security in accordance with the law, respecting the sovereignty of the nations bordering the Red Sea, including Yemen.
The reception underscored the longstanding friendship and cooperation between China and Yemen, reflecting both countries’ commitment to further strengthening their relationship. The occasion served as a testament to their shared history and mutual support, paving the way for future collaboration and prosperity.
