In a significant move to address the pressing military situations and ongoing development plans aimed at enhancing the performance and infrastructure of the armed forces and security, the Yemeni Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, convened an extraordinary session on Wednesday in the temporary capital, Aden.
The Cabinet reviewed the comprehensive responsibility of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in supporting the armed forces. This includes reorganizing and unifying them under the Ministry of Defense’s command, developing military and combat tactics, and bolstering the security of land, sea, and air entry points.
A detailed report presented by the Minister of Defense and ministry leaders outlined the current military and operational situation. It highlighted efforts to enhance performance, training levels, logistical support, and human resources, along with addressing the needs, challenges, and suggestions for overcoming them.
The report also covered the readiness and supply levels across various fronts, the conditions of the armed forces members, proposals for improving their situations, and the care for the families of martyrs and the wounded. The Cabinet pledged its utmost effort to support the military institution and meet its essential requirements for continuing its national role during this extraordinary period.
The Cabinet expressed its deepest respect and admiration for all members of the armed forces stationed at various locations and fronts, acknowledging the sacrifices of these national institutions, the popular resistance, and all military formations united in the battle to defend the republican regime and the comprehensive national project. It also commemorated the souls of all martyrs from the armed forces, security, popular resistance, and all who sacrificed their lives for freedom and the republican order against the Houthi militia’s coup supported by the Iranian regime.
The high discipline and combat readiness of the armed forces and security were commended, along with the efforts of the Minister of Defense to improve the efficiency of this sovereign ministry. The Cabinet appreciated the logistical support from the Saudi-led coalition in supporting legitimacy. A committee comprising various ministries will be formed to address the armed forces’ urgent needs based on the Defense Ministry’s report.
At the meeting’s outset, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s priority to enhance the leading role of the armed forces and security in the battle to restore the state, counter terrorism, and fulfill the Yemeni people’s aspirations to end the coup. He emphasized that the battle against the Houthi coup and its Iranian project is a matter of existence and destiny, requiring unwavering support for the armed forces and security.
The government, under the Presidential Leadership Council’s directives, aims to build a strong, professional, and institutionally based army, keeping the military and security institutions neutral from political conflicts. The Prime Minister called for continued efforts in financial and administrative reforms to uplift the national military institution and improve the conditions of its members across all ranks.
This special session underscores the Yemeni government’s commitment to enhancing its military capabilities, securing the nation, and honoring the sacrifices of its armed forces in the ongoing battle for freedom and state restoration.
