In a coordinated effort, drug enforcement agencies, alongside various security forces and military units, have arrested 627 individuals involved in drug-related offenses during the first half of 2025. This operation spanned multiple liberated regions and provinces.
According to Major Abdullah Al-Hamdi, the Director General of Drug Control, the arrests included 625 males and 2 females. Among those apprehended, authorities identified 30 drug traffickers, 156 individuals for drug promotion, and 393 for drug use. Additionally, three people faced charges for drug transportation, 16 for drug smuggling, one for drug provision, and 27 for possession and other drug-related crimes.
During the same period, law enforcement recorded 310 drug-related cases. This total comprised six trafficking cases, 77 promotion cases, and 207 instances of drug use. Furthermore, authorities dealt with six cases of smuggling narcotics, four cases of drug transportation, and one case of drug provision, along with nine other related offenses, including possession and sale.
Major Al-Hamdi reported substantial quantities of narcotics confiscated during this timeframe. The seizures included 736 kilograms and 129 grams of hashish, 10 grams and 234 vials of opium, 987 grams of heroin, 71 kilograms and 576 grams of methamphetamine, and 3,258 Captagon pills. Additionally, authorities seized 212,913 assorted narcotic pills.
Al-Hamdi emphasized that intelligence indicates the smuggling operations originate from areas controlled by the Houthi militia, which receives support from the Iranian regime. He urged community members to enhance their awareness of the dangers posed by drug trafficking and use. This awareness is crucial for protecting society from the harmful effects of drugs, which contribute to crime, destabilization, and hinder development.
