Bahasani, a member of the Leadership Council, reviews conditions at the Yemeni Embassy in Washington.

Yemeni Presidential Council Member Visits Embassy in the United States

In a significant move to bolster the Yemeni-American diplomatic engagement, Major General Faraj Al-Bahsani, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, visited the Yemeni Embassy in the United States today. The visit aimed to review the embassy’s operations and assess the staff’s conditions, highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships.

During his visit, Al-Bahsani met with Mohammed Al-Hadhrami, the Yemeni Ambassador to the United States, and the embassy staff. They discussed the latest developments in Yemen, covering the military, political, humanitarian, and economic situations. The discussions also touched on the required interventions from the regional and international community to support the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government.

Focus on Peace and Counterterrorism

Al-Bahsani outlined the efforts to revive the political process in Yemen through international pressure on the Houthi militias. The goal is to compel them to engage with peace initiatives, aiming for a comprehensive solution that ends the crisis in the country. He also highlighted the council and government’s efforts in combating terrorism, recounting the challenges faced during Al-Qaeda’s control over coastal cities in Hadramout. The successful counterterrorism efforts led by the Hadrami Elite Forces, with support from the Saudi-led coalition and direct participation from the United Arab Emirates on April 24, 2016, were a focal point of discussion, emphasizing the significant losses inflicted on terrorist elements.

Appreciation for U.S. Support

Al-Bahsani expressed high regard for the United States’ efforts in combating terrorism globally, especially in Yemen. He affirmed that the continuous cooperation between the two countries is crucial for national security and regional stability. This partnership effectively enhances the state and government’s efforts to confront security challenges and achieve peace across the nation.

Expressing Gratitude and Looking Forward

The Presidential Leadership Council member extended his gratitude to Ambassador Al-Hadhrami and the embassy staff, conveying greetings from Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, and its members. He reassured the council’s readiness to provide the necessary support to the embassy’s efforts in enhancing partnerships in various fields with the American side.

The meeting, attended by Timothy Lenderking, the U.S. Special Envoy to Yemen, saw Al-Hadhrami welcoming Al-Bahsani’s visit and wishing him a speedy recovery and successful medical journey.

This visit underscores the commitment to strengthening Yemeni-American relations, focusing on peace, security, and development challenges facing Yemen.
