Ataq Airport welcomes its first flight after years of inactivity, with Shabwa’s governor applauding the airport’s operational restart.

In a significant development, Ataq International Airport today received its first flight from Aden International Airport, marking the end of a hiatus that lasted several years. The flight, operated by the Belgian branch of the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF), was warmly received by Fahd Al-Khalifi, the Deputy Governor of Shabwa Province, and Salem Hamed, the General Director of Ataq Airport.

A Warm Welcome and Future Prospects

Shabwa Governor Awad bin Al-Wazir expressed his delight at the resumption of operations at Ataq International Airport. He highlighted the importance of the inaugural flight by Doctors Without Borders, which operates in the Ataq Public Hospital for Motherhood and Childhood, as a significant step towards revitalizing the airport’s activities. Governor Al-Wazir also conveyed his eagerness for other international organizations to resume their flights to Ataq, emphasizing the airport’s strategic importance to the surrounding provinces.

The governor appreciated the support from Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology. Governor Al-Wazir looks forward to the initiation of both domestic and international flights from and to Ataq Airport, signaling a new era of connectivity for the region.
