The investigation committee from the Ministry of Transport has announced its preliminary findings today regarding the tragic traffic accident that occurred on the evening of Friday, May 15, 2026, in the Al-Abr district of Hadramout. This unfortunate incident resulted in the deaths of six individuals and injuries to 24 others, while six passengers managed to escape unharmed.
The committee reported that the accident involved a public transport bus operated by Al-Barakah Company, which collided with a camel on the main road. This collision caused the bus to veer off course and crash into a “Dina” type vehicle. Emergency services responded promptly, transporting the injured to Al-Abr Hospital and subsequently to the city of Sayoun for further medical assistance. In addition, authorities conducted a thorough site inspection and documented witness statements to gather comprehensive information on the incident.
In light of the preliminary findings, the committee has made several recommendations aimed at enhancing road safety in the region. They urged the swift repair of international roads, the installation of clear signage, and improved regulation of truck traffic on major routes. Furthermore, the committee suggested establishing emergency response points and increasing security patrols, particularly along the Al-Abr route. They emphasized the necessity for protective measures in areas where camels frequently cross to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The committee clarified that this report is preliminary and that investigations will continue to uncover further details and assign accountability. For more updates on this developing story, stay tuned to Yemen TV.
