On Sunday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, engaged in a significant meeting with Yevgeny Koudrov, the Russian Ambassador to Yemen. This dialogue marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing diplomatic relations between Yemen and Russia.
During the meeting, Ambassador Koudrov conveyed a congratulatory message from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The message celebrated Yemen’s National Day, expressing wishes for stability and peace for the Yemeni people. President Putin also articulated hopes for the continued development and prosperity of bilateral relations.
In response, President Alimi requested that Ambassador Koudrov extend his greetings to President Putin, along with his best wishes for the progress and prosperity of the Russian people. The discussion emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two nations across various sectors. Both leaders acknowledged the positive developments following the presidential visit to Moscow last year, highlighting a mutual commitment to deepening ties.
President Alimi praised the long-standing historical ties between Yemen and Russia, acknowledging Russia’s unwavering support for Yemeni unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He commended Russia’s significant role within the United Nations Security Council, advocating for the aspirations of the Yemeni people and underscoring the necessity for political solutions grounded in national, regional, and international agreements.
The conversation also addressed recent national developments, including substantial transformations within Yemeni state institutions. These changes encompass reorganizing security and military decisions, improving coordination among state entities, and initiating economic, financial, and service reforms. The aim is to establish a model state and reinforce its national presence, with robust support from Saudi Arabia and other regional and international partners.
President Alimi expressed Yemen’s desire for a more substantial Russian role in the recovery and reconstruction phase, particularly in sectors such as energy, ports, mining, infrastructure, and vocational education. He emphasized the necessity for ongoing economic and political coordination to promote regional security and stability, ultimately benefiting both nations.
Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, also attended the meeting, underscoring the significance of this diplomatic engagement. This meeting reflects the ongoing commitment of both Yemen and Russia to strengthen their partnership and collaboratively pursue mutual goals.
