A tragic incident occurred on Sunday when a young man, Ali Ghaleb Ali Jadib, lost his life due to a landmine explosion in the Al-Huwimi area of Kharash, located in the Qubaita district of Lahij Province, southern Yemen.
Local sources report that Jadib sustained severe injuries to his left foot and suffered multiple shrapnel wounds across his body. He experienced significant bleeding and was transported to the field clinic of the 2nd Hazzm Brigade. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to the capital, Aden.
This incident highlights the ongoing dangers posed by landmines planted by Houthi militias in various regions of Yemen. These explosives continue to claim civilian lives, with government estimates indicating that over two million landmines have been laid over the past decade. This figure represents the highest number of landmines since World War II. Human rights reports indicate that nearly 10,000 civilians, predominantly women and children, have either died or been injured due to these landmines.
The situation remains dire as the threat of landmines persists, affecting countless lives in Yemen. The international community must address this humanitarian crisis to prevent further loss of life and ensure the safety of civilians in affected areas.
