On Sunday, Abdul Rahman Al-Mahrami, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Dr. Waed Badhieb, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology, in Aden. The two officials discussed the latest developments in their respective ministries and explored ways to enhance institutional performance to meet the needs and aspirations of citizens and both public and private sectors.
During the meeting, the officials addressed the Ministry of Planning’s efforts to coordinate with relevant stakeholders. Their goal is to unify development plans and ensure effective collaboration with development partners. This coordination aims to streamline efforts and maximize the impact of development initiatives.
The discussion also covered the government’s strategy to bolster economic recovery. This strategy focuses on developing economic resources and optimizing the use of foreign aid and grants, aligning them with current needs and priorities.
Minister Badhieb presented ongoing plans to relocate the offices of international organizations and agencies to Aden. This move comes in response to increasing violations by Houthi militias against humanitarian and relief work. He emphasized that the presence of some agencies in Houthi-controlled areas poses risks to the safety and security of their personnel and exacerbates violations against humanitarian efforts.
Al-Mahrami stressed the importance of shifting from emergency projects to sustainable development. He highlighted the need to focus on initiatives that can significantly transform communities. Additionally, he underscored the importance of considering sectoral and local priorities, as well as the diversity of targeted areas.
Al-Mahrami also received updates from Minister Badhieb regarding the operations of the Ministry of Communications and its affiliated institutions. They reviewed ongoing projects in infrastructure and institutional development, identified challenges, and discussed proposed solutions. The conversation included the necessity of enhancing “Aden Net” and expanding coverage to improve internet service quality for citizens.
The discussions further encompassed plans to encourage investment and outlined future goals and visions for advancing the telecommunications and internet sectors. The officials also addressed upcoming technical updates aimed at enhancing service quality and expanding coverage.
This meeting marks a significant step towards improving institutional performance and fostering sustainable development in Yemen’s critical sectors.
