Meeting Focuses on Cultural and Tourism Development in Yemen
Marib Governor Meets Culture Minister
Today, Sultan Al-Aradah, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, met with Muti Dhamaj, the Minister of Culture and Tourism. They discussed several issues related to the ministry’s efforts to revitalize the cultural and tourism sectors. Their goal is to enhance development and promote Yemen’s rich cultural heritage.
Challenges in Culture and Tourism Sectors
The meeting included key figures such as Dr. Ahmed Ba-Tai, President of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums; Dr. Ali Ta’iman, Deputy President of the General Authority for the Preservation of Historical Cities; Jaafar Abu Bakr, Deputy Minister of Tourism; and Walid Mahdi, Executive Director of the Heritage and Cultural Development Fund. They reviewed the significant challenges facing the cultural and tourism sectors amid current conditions. The discussion highlighted ongoing efforts to protect Yemen’s cultural and historical heritage while supporting cultural and creative activities.
Enhancing Institutional Performance
Al-Aradah emphasized the importance of improving the performance of cultural and tourism institutions. He outlined ways to strengthen their roles in fostering awareness, thought, and culture, while preserving national identity and reinforcing republican values. He stressed the need for collaborative efforts between official and community sectors to protect cultural heritage, care for historical sites, and develop plans to revitalize tourism in line with recovery and reconstruction efforts.

The council member noted that including Marib’s landmarks on the UNESCO World Heritage List signifies international recognition of their historical and humanitarian value.
