Development Meeting in Aden Focuses on GIZ's Agricultural and Fisheries Interventions

A significant meeting took place today in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, to discuss the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and its developmental interventions in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

Key Discussions on Implementation Mechanisms

The meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, alongside Mark Christoph Schumacher, the GIZ Country Director. Participants addressed various topics related to the implementation mechanisms for ongoing projects funded by the German government.

Particular attention focused on initiatives aimed at supporting the livelihoods of fishermen. The discussions also explored the potential for GIZ to finance research and information centers, as well as central laboratories affiliated with the ministry. Additionally, attendees reviewed plans for training technical personnel in both the agricultural and fisheries sectors. Other topics included irrigation projects, the rehabilitation of fish landing centers, and promoting investment in industrial fishing.

Praise for German Support

The ministry’s leadership expressed gratitude for the support provided by the German government across various provinces. They highlighted the quality of projects initiated by GIZ, particularly those targeting infrastructure and sustainable development within the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

Officials emphasized the necessity of focusing on funding sustainable and developmental projects. This aligns with the government’s broader objectives to uplift both sectors, thereby alleviating the struggles of farmers and fishermen while improving their living standards and food security.

GIZ’s Commitment to Government Objectives

In response, Mark Christoph Schumacher reaffirmed GIZ’s commitment to aligning its efforts with the current priorities of the Yemeni government and its international donors. He emphasized that GIZ will continue to translate these priorities into actionable projects that benefit the local communities.

This meeting underscores the collaborative efforts between the Yemeni government and GIZ to enhance the agricultural and fisheries sectors, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic stability and food security.
