In a significant move to support individuals with disabilities in Yemen, the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SPDRY) and the Board of Directors of the Association for the Care of Children with Disabilities signed a cooperation memorandum today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The agreement was signed by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Association for the Care of Children with Disabilities, alongside Ambassador Mohammed Al Jaber, General Supervisor of the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.
Prince Sultan emphasized that this cooperation memorandum represents an extension of the association’s ongoing efforts to integrate with relevant institutions and organizations to address disability issues. The memorandum aims to provide advisory services to the program in establishing medical rehabilitation centers for individuals with various disabilities. He noted that the association is experiencing unprecedented growth, expanding its services to numerous cities and areas across the Kingdom.
Ambassador Mohammed Al Jaber expressed confidence that the memorandum will facilitate developmental interventions that support individuals with disabilities in Yemen. He thanked Prince Sultan for his dedication and support for this developmental initiative, which aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader economic and developmental assistance to Yemen.
The cooperation memorandum aims to exchange expertise and knowledge in supporting individuals with disabilities. It also focuses on building the capacities of professionals in this field in Yemen, fostering partnerships with relevant international organizations, and organizing interactive activities that promote community integration for children with disabilities.
This memorandum reflects the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen’s ongoing commitment to implement projects and initiatives that support individuals with disabilities and various community groups. This approach highlights the inclusivity of the program’s sustainable development initiatives.
Among the program’s developmental projects is the establishment and equipping of a rehabilitation center for disabled children in Aden, which will directly and indirectly serve 7,840 beneficiaries. This project aims to effectively integrate children with disabilities into society while providing them with therapeutic and rehabilitation services, enhancing their cognitive and physical skills.
The Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen will also sponsor the celebration of Disability Awareness Week in collaboration with the Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of Physically Disabled Individuals in Al Mahrah Governorate. This event coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Through its sponsorship of Disability Awareness Week, the program aims to deliver efficient healthcare by providing tools tailored to the needs of individuals with disabilities. The initiative will also contribute to building their capabilities through diverse community activities that will benefit 413 individuals with disabilities.
Notably, the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen has launched 263 developmental projects and initiatives across eight vital sectors, including education, energy, transportation, water, agriculture, fisheries, government capacity building, and developmental programs, impacting 16 Yemeni governorates.
This collaboration marks a pivotal step in enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities in Yemen, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to sustainable development and community support.
