Council member Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami reviews Yemen Airways’ status, emphasizing the need to revitalize the aviation sector.

Revitalizing Yemen’s Aviation Sector: A Call to Action

Leadership Emphasizes Importance of Aviation

Abdul Rahman Al-Mahrami, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, underscored the critical role of the aviation sector in Yemen’s development. He described it as a vital artery that facilitates the movement of people and goods. During a meeting on Sunday in the temporary capital of Aden, Al-Mahrami stressed the need for technical and institutional support for Yemen Airways. This support aims to help the airline meet international safety standards.

Meeting with Yemen Airways Leadership

Al-Mahrami met with Captain Nasser Mahmoud, the Chairman of Yemen Airways, and the company’s Commercial Director, Mohsen Haidara. They discussed the current state of the airline, the challenges it faces, and ongoing efforts to enhance its services and performance amid the country’s difficult circumstances.

Proposals for Business Development

During the meeting, Al-Mahrami listened to proposals from Mahmoud and Haidara aimed at improving the airline’s commercial operations. These proposals focus on enhancing customer experience, building strong partnerships with relevant stakeholders, and expanding Yemen Airways’ reach in the aviation market despite existing challenges.

Commitment to Modernization and Expansion

The leadership of Yemen Airways expressed its commitment to keeping pace with updates in both domestic and international operations. They plan to expand flight routes to various destinations and continuously work on training and developing the airline’s workforce to achieve their ambitious goals.

Addressing External Challenges

Yemen Airways’ leadership attributed the significant decline in the airline’s operations over the past years to the actions of Houthi militias. These militias have engaged in hostile practices against airports and air navigation, including hijacking aircraft and using the sector to further military agendas. Such actions jeopardize aviation safety and violate international laws.

Strengthening Coordination for Future Success

Al-Mahrami highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination with government entities and specialized international organizations. He called for activating technical partnerships to improve the airline’s efficiency, ensure its sustainability, and provide better services to the public.

By focusing on these key areas, Yemen aims to revitalize its aviation sector, ensuring it plays a crucial role in the nation’s recovery and growth.
