A Houthi landmine kills a farmer and his son in Al Hudaydah.

Tragic Incident in Al-Hudaydah: Father and Son Killed by Landmine Explosion

A father and his teenage son lost their lives on Tuesday afternoon due to an explosion caused by a landmine left behind by the Houthi militia. The incident occurred in the western part of the Al-Durayhimi district in Al-Hudaydah province while they were riding a motorcycle to their farm.

Details of the Incident

According to the Human Rights Office in Al-Durayhimi, the victims were identified as 41-year-old Abdullah Habir Mashhour and his 14-year-old son, Mohammed Abdullah Jaber Mashhour. The tragic event took place around 2:30 PM near the Dukhman Water Project, where both individuals sustained severe injuries from the blast.

Immediate Response and Aftermath

Emergency responders transported the father and son to Al-Thawra Hospital in Al-Hudaydah. Unfortunately, both succumbed to their injuries by 5 PM the same day. The Human Rights Office has since condemned the Houthi militia for their role in laying a significant number of landmines in the area in recent days.

Escalating Landmine Crisis in Yemen

Reports indicate that the Houthi militia has planted nearly two million landmines across Yemen, particularly along the western coast. This alarming figure represents the highest rate of landmine deployment since World War II, according to United Nations assessments.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing dangers posed by landmines in Yemen, which continue to claim lives and hinder the safety of civilians. The international community must take urgent action to address this humanitarian crisis and support efforts to clear these deadly remnants of conflict.
