A government source explains the reasons for the Prime Minister’s delayed return to Aden.

Prime Minister Remains in Riyadh to Address Economic Challenges

A government source has confirmed that Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Brek will remain in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, following his recent swearing-in. This decision aims to facilitate urgent support for pressing economic and service-related issues, particularly the payment of salaries for both civilian and military employees, addressing the electricity crisis, and stabilizing the national currency.

Strategic Return to Aden Planned

A responsible source within the Cabinet informed the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the Prime Minister plans to return to the temporary capital of Aden once ongoing arrangements are complete. His focus is on achieving tangible results rather than merely making a symbolic appearance. The Prime Minister recently held a productive meeting with His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi Minister of Defense. This meeting highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Yemen and its people during this critical phase.

Ongoing Engagement with International Partners

The Prime Minister is actively engaging in continuous communications and meetings with Yemen’s partners, particularly the Coalition to Support Legitimacy led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. He aims to rally urgent financial and economic support to halt the decline of the national currency, ensure timely salary payments, and address the electricity crisis. This effort is especially crucial as the Eid al-Adha holiday approaches, increasing the financial burden on citizens.

Commitment to Addressing Citizens’ Concerns

The Prime Minister fully understands the hardships faced by citizens. His recent silence was not a disregard for their pleas but rather a focused effort to find genuine, lasting solutions to their challenges, away from mere media rhetoric. He assures the public that significant changes will occur in several areas, and he will not return to Aden without promising improvements, particularly in salary disbursement, electricity services, and currency stability.

Confidence in International Support

The source emphasized the confidence of the political leadership, the government, and the Yemeni people in the support from the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE. They remain committed to assisting Yemen during this exceptional period. Urgent intervention is necessary to rescue the Yemeni rial, which faces the threat of a complete economic collapse and a catastrophic famine with severe consequences.
