The findings reveal that 44% of participants reported heavier workloads, while 29% indicated they experience heightened stress levels.

Employees attribute their stress to two primary factors:

• Cost-Cutting Measures: 49% of respondents cited budget reductions and efficiency programs as major stressors.
• Staff Reductions: 48% noted that layoffs or unfilled positions have intensified their workload.

Young Workers Express Concerns Over AI

The survey, published on an open platform, indicates that younger employees feel particularly anxious about their job futures. Among those under 30, 37% expressed fears that artificial intelligence could render their roles obsolete. In contrast, only 17% of individuals born between 1965 and 1980 share similar concerns.

This survey was commissioned by Swiss Life and the German Union for Workers in Mining, Chemicals, and Energy. Michael Vassiliadis, the union’s president, described the results as a wake-up call for Germany’s industrial landscape.

Disparities Between Production and Management Workers

The survey also uncovered a clear divide between production and management employees:

• Increased Pressure in Production: 59% of production workers acknowledged rising stress levels.
• Lower Pressure in Office Roles: Only 37% of office workers reported similar increases.

Additionally, 54% of participants anticipate greater demands for flexibility and resilience in the coming months. Meanwhile, 33% believe these demands will only rise in certain areas.
