EU Delegation Reviews Water Reservoir Project in Aden

A delegation from the European Union visited Aden today to assess the progress of a water reservoir construction project in the Al-Barzakh area. The project, which costs €2.749 million, receives funding from the German Development Bank and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Delegation Overview

The EU delegation included notable figures such as Mirke Weerdy, Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands; Emeric Piau-Villan, Deputy Ambassador of France; and Andreas Thomsen, First Secretary of the Norwegian Embassy. They met with Mohammed Bakheera, the General Director of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in Aden. During the visit, Bakheera provided updates on the project’s implementation, which is facilitated by the Social Development Fund through the company Dom International. The team inspected the soil testing and the construction of a base for the iron reservoir, which will have a capacity of 18,000 cubic meters.

Current Water Service Challenges

The delegation also examined the current state of water services in Aden. They discussed the challenges and difficulties that the Aden Water Corporation faces in delivering reliable water services to the community.

Commitment to Strategic Projects

The EU representatives emphasized their commitment to supporting strategic projects like the water reservoir. They believe this initiative will significantly enhance the Aden Water Corporation’s capacity to supply water to residents in the region.

This visit highlights the ongoing efforts of international partners to improve essential services in Yemen, particularly in areas facing severe water shortages. The collaboration aims to ensure sustainable water access for the citizens of Aden.
