Coordination Meeting on Human Rights Initiatives Held in Aden

On Thursday, a significant meeting took place at the headquarters of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. The gathering focused on enhancing collaboration and developing a comprehensive approach to human rights and freedoms, aiming to protect the rights of survivors and victims of violations.

Key Attendees and Presentations

The meeting featured prominent figures, including Deputy Chairperson of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, Saker Al-Wajih, and Jamila Ali Rajaa. Representatives from the Ministry of Human Rights, the Human Rights Department at the Presidency, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Shura Council, and the Commission on Rights and Freedoms also attended.

During the session, Nabil Abdul Hafiz, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights, presented the ministry’s initiatives to combat child recruitment. He highlighted the collaboration with security agencies and the army, noting the development of an official protocol for the rehabilitation and reintegration of child soldiers in coordination with social protection units.

Establishing a National Human Rights Team

Rasha Jarhum, Chairperson of the Commission on Rights and Freedoms, emphasized the necessity of establishing a specialized national team to address human rights issues in Yemen. This team would coordinate efforts among official and civil entities involved in human rights advocacy across the country.

Importance of Coordination and Evaluation

Ali Al-Hazazi, Head of the Human Rights Department at the Presidency, stressed the importance of evaluating human rights initiatives and closing existing gaps. He called for a comprehensive approach that serves the national interest.

Strengthening Civil Society Relations

The Head of the Civil Society and Human Rights Department at the Prime Minister’s Office underscored the need to strengthen direct relationships with civil society organizations. He advocated for support for active organizations to enhance their impact.

Focusing on Violations Across Yemen

Alawi Al-Basha, Head of the Rights and Freedoms Department at the Shura Council, pointed out the critical need to address human rights violations in all regions of Yemen. He called for a renewed focus on activating Yemen’s role within Arab and international human rights mechanisms.
