A tragic incident occurred in Al-Duraihimy, a district in the western Yemeni governorate of Al-Hudaydah, where a local resident lost his life due to an explosion caused by a landmine planted by the Houthi militia.
The Human Rights Office in Al-Duraihimy reported the incident yesterday evening. They confirmed that the victim, identified as Yahya Rajeh Hiba Hadish, aged 45, died after stepping on a Houthi landmine located west of the village of Al-Shajan. The explosion happened while he was tending to his sheep, marking a significant rise in the number of casualties from landmine incidents in the area.
This incident increased the death toll from landmines in Al-Duraihimy to three within just one day. The Human Rights Office highlighted that the Houthi militia has recently intensified its landmine planting activities in the northern and western regions of Al-Shajan village, resulting in numerous civilian casualties.
Earlier, the office reported another tragic event in the same district, where a father and son died in a separate landmine explosion while riding their motorcycle. This pattern of violence underscores the ongoing dangers posed by landmines in the region, affecting the local population’s safety and security.
The continued use of landmines by the Houthi militia has raised serious concerns about civilian safety in Al-Duraihimy. Local authorities and human rights organizations are calling for urgent measures to address this humanitarian crisis and protect innocent lives from further harm.
