Support for Power Generation
Today, Dr. Shaya Mohsen Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the signing ceremony for a significant agreement aimed at enhancing electricity generation across various Yemeni provinces. The agreement, valued at $150 million, comes from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.
Details of the Agreement
The agreement, signed by Minister of Electricity and Energy Engineer Adnan Al-Kaf and Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Jaber, the program’s general supervisor, will supply diesel and mazout to over 70 electricity generation stations. This initiative aims to stabilize electricity services and ensure their continuous operation, thereby supporting vital sectors that rely on electrical energy.
Collaboration with PetroMasila
Additionally, a separate agreement was established between the Yemeni Oil Company, PetroMasila, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen. This collaboration aims to enhance PetroMasila’s capabilities as a government entity, improving its efficiency and service continuity.
Governance and Oversight
This support follows a comprehensive governance framework designed to ensure that aid reaches its intended beneficiaries. A high-level committee, linked to the Prime Minister, will oversee the distribution of petroleum derivatives to electricity stations based on their specific needs.
Expressions of Gratitude
Following the signing, Prime Minister Al-Zandani expressed profound gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their generous support. He emphasized that this assistance addresses one of the critical challenges facing the government: securing petroleum derivatives to improve electricity services. Al-Zandani noted that these agreements reflect Saudi Arabia’s sincere commitment to supporting Yemen and its people in various circumstances.
Prioritizing Electricity Issues
Dr. Al-Zandani highlighted that the government prioritizes electricity issues, treating them as national, service-oriented, and humanitarian matters that should not be politicized. He reassured the public that the government is actively working on multiple fronts to address long-standing challenges in the electricity sector. He expressed confidence in the government’s ability, with Saudi support, to find sustainable solutions for electricity.
Commitment to Effective Implementation
The Prime Minister assured that the government would maximize the benefits of this agreement to ensure its positive impact on citizens’ lives and improve electricity services. He acknowledged the efforts of Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, led by Ambassador Mohammed Al-Jaber, for their exceptional support in infrastructure and essential services.
Ongoing Support from Saudi Arabia
Ambassador Al-Jaber commended the Yemeni government’s efforts to enhance performance and adhere to governance standards. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni government in finding solutions for sustainable electricity services. Al-Jaber explained that this agreement aligns with directives from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aiming to supply electricity stations with diesel and mazout across numerous Yemeni provinces.
