Workshop on Community Health Strategy Launches in Cairo

A specialized workshop focused on developing executive tools for the National Community Health Strategy commenced today in Cairo, Egypt. The Ministry of Public Health and Population organized this event in collaboration with UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO). The workshop will run for six days and includes participation from ministry leaders and technical staff.

Objectives of the Workshop

The primary goal of the workshop is to design a comprehensive framework for implementing the community health strategy. Participants will identify essential health service packages and mechanisms for applying them at both community and institutional levels. This initiative aims to enhance access to health services and improve the quality of care provided to citizens.

Minister’s Opening Remarks

During the opening session, Dr. Qassem Baheeb, the Minister of Public Health and Population, emphasized the importance of strengthening community health work as a fundamental pillar of the health system. He noted that investing in community health workers significantly improves health indicators, particularly in maternal and child health, nutrition, vaccination, and epidemiological surveillance.

The minister urged participants to recognize the significance of their assigned tasks and to produce actionable outcomes that contribute to the development of the health system. He stressed the need for optimal resource utilization and the reallocation of available financial and human resources, advocating for the unification of health programs into a cohesive framework.

Insights from WHO and UNICEF

Dr. Noha Mahmoud, the WHO representative in Aden, highlighted the necessity of standardizing training manuals and health programs related to community health work. She pointed out that this standardization plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of health services and encouraged participants to learn from successful international experiences.

Dr. Kabir Hassan, head of the health section at UNICEF, described the workshop as a significant step toward unifying efforts between the ministry and its international partners. He emphasized the need to develop an effective community health model focused on disease prevention, early detection, health education, and connecting communities with health facilities.
