Yemen Participates in High-Level International Conference on Palestinian Issue
The Republic of Yemen participated today in the opening session of a high-level international conference aimed at resolving the Palestinian issue through peaceful solutions and implementing the two-state solution. The conference takes place in New York and is co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. Yemen’s delegation is led by Dr. Sha’if Al-Zandani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs.
High-Level Attendance and Key Messages
The opening session witnessed significant participation from Arab and international representatives, including officials from various international and regional organizations. Key addresses came from the conference co-chairs: Jean-Yves Le Drian, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Saudi Foreign Minister. Additionally, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa emphasized the urgent need to revive the peace process and implement the two-state solution based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Importance of International Law and Justice
During the session, prominent international figures highlighted the importance of international law and justice in establishing lasting and equitable peace. Their remarks underscored the necessity of adhering to legal principles to achieve sustainable solutions.
Roundtable Discussions on Political Solutions
Minister Al-Zandani also participated in roundtable discussions that focused on the outcomes of working groups at the conference. These discussions addressed various aspects of the political solution, including sovereignty, security, economic viability, humanitarian relief, and reconstruction efforts.
Supporting International Efforts for the Two-State Solution
The conference aligns with the international coalition’s efforts to implement the two-state solution, initiated by Saudi Arabia, Norway, and the European Union in September 2024. It serves as a continuation of the joint Arab-Islamic ministerial committee’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, restore their legitimate rights, and achieve a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East.
Goals of the Conference
Running from July 28 to July 30, the conference aims to encourage other nations to recognize the State of Palestine and implement international resolutions that call for an independent Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This initiative seeks to foster peace and stability in the region while opening avenues for development and prosperity.
