Yemeni Officials Inspect War-Damaged Sports Facilities in Taiz

Rehabilitation Efforts Underway for Al-Saqr Club and Al-Shuhada Stadium

In a significant move towards the restoration of sports infrastructure in Taiz, Yemen, Minister of Youth and Sports Naif Saleh Al-Bakri, accompanied by Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan, visited the war-torn Al-Saqr Club and Al-Shuhada Stadium on Wednesday. Their visit aimed to assess the damages inflicted by the Houthi militia’s war on the city and to understand the rehabilitation needs of these vital sports facilities.

Presidential and Governmental Support for Sports Revival

During the visit, Minister Al-Bakri lauded the support and attention of His Excellency Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, its members, and Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak. Their commitment to evacuating the club’s premises and handing them over to the youth underscores the importance of sports and athletes in the province. This gesture is part of a broader effort to revive sports as a crucial element for the youth and cultural development in Taiz.

Al-Shuhada Stadium’s Renovation Progress

Minister Al-Bakri also inspected the ongoing renovation works at Al-Shuhada Stadium, where the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ Youth Welfare Fund, under the supervision of the Projects Sector, has laid new ground and is in the process of rehabilitating the facility. Al-Bakri directed the swift completion of the remaining tasks, highlighting Taiz’s significance as a hub for sports and cultural activities and the urgency to complete the rehabilitation project of Al-Ahli Club Stadium.

Encouragement for Continuation of Sports Activities

Furthermore, Minister Al-Bakri witnessed a part of the training session of Al-Tali’a Club on the stadium grounds. He encouraged the players to continue their sports activities and to steer clear of harmful practices. Minister Al-Bakri commended the level of discipline he observed among the club’s players, reinforcing the importance of sports in fostering discipline and healthy lifestyles among the youth.

This visit underscores the Yemeni government’s commitment to restoring and enhancing sports facilities in Taiz, recognizing the pivotal role of sports in promoting peace, unity, and development amidst the country’s ongoing challenges.
