Yemen’s ambassador to the U.S. takes the oath of office before the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.

New Ambassador Sworn In to Represent Yemen in the United States

On Thursday, Ambassador Abdulwahab Abdullah Ahmed Al-Hajri took the oath of office before President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, at the Yemeni Embassy in Riyadh. This ceremony marked his official appointment as Yemen’s extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the United States.

Meeting with the President

Following the oath-taking ceremony, President Al-Alimi met with Ambassador Al-Hajri. During their discussion, the President emphasized the importance of the ambassador’s role in representing Yemen effectively. He urged Al-Hajri to fully embrace his responsibilities as the head of Yemen’s diplomatic mission in Washington, D.C. The President highlighted the need to safeguard Yemen’s interests and serve its citizens residing in the United States, reinforcing the longstanding bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.

Strengthening Yemeni Diplomacy

President Al-Alimi praised the ongoing reforms within Yemeni diplomacy. He reiterated the necessity of enhancing its role in rallying international support for Yemen. The President called for unity alongside the Yemeni people as they strive to restore their national institutions and end the Houthi terrorist insurgency, which is backed by the Iranian regime.

Moreover, the President underscored the critical role of Yemeni diplomatic missions in responding effectively to current developments. He stressed the importance of adapting to changing circumstances at all levels.

Promoting Justice and Human Rights

In this context, President Al-Alimi called for innovative promotion of the vision for a just state that the Yemeni people aspire to achieve. He urged the ambassador to expose the Houthi terrorist group’s severe human rights violations, framing them as a persistent threat to international peace and security, rather than a temporary issue.

Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, attended the meeting, further emphasizing the significance of this diplomatic appointment for Yemen’s future.
