Meteorologists Warn of Extreme Heat and Thunderstorms Across Yemen

Weather Forecast Overview

The General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology’s weather prediction center has issued a comprehensive forecast for Sunday, highlighting a range of weather conditions expected across Yemen. Citizens are advised to prepare for extreme heat in coastal and desert areas, while mountainous regions may experience significant thunderstorms.

Conditions by Region

Coastal Areas

In the coastal regions and adjacent areas, the weather is anticipated to be partly cloudy with hot to very hot temperatures during the day, transitioning to milder conditions at night. Scattered rain showers are possible along the eastern, southern, and western coasts, including the Socotra Archipelago. Winds are expected to remain light to moderate along the southern and western shores.

Mountainous Regions

The forecast predicts partly cloudy weather in mountainous areas, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms likely in the western and southwestern highlands. This weather pattern is expected to stretch from Saada in the north to Lahij in the south, including the provinces of Al-Dhale and Al-Bayda. Additionally, the highlands of Abyan and Shabwa are likely to experience similar weather conditions.

Desert and Plateau Areas

In the desert and plateau regions, sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected, accompanied by very hot to extremely hot temperatures during the day and mild conditions at night. Winds will remain light to moderate. The maximum and minimum temperatures for Sunday are projected as follows:

  • Coastal Areas: Aden: 36°C / 30°C, Mukalla: 33°C / 28°C, Hodeidah: 35°C / 31°C, Socotra: 36°C / 27°C, Mokha: 37°C / 29°C, Al-Ghaydah: 34°C / 28°C, Zinjibar: 36°C / 29°C, Lahij: 37°C / 28°C
  • Desert and Plateau Areas: Sayun: 40°C / 24°C, Marib: 39°C / 24°C, Ataq: 37°C / 25°C, Bayhan: 37°C / 22°C
  • Mountainous Regions: Sana’a: 30°C / 15°C, Taiz: 32°C / 20°C, Dhamar: 28°C / 11°C, Al-Dhale: 32°C / 20°C, Ibb: 28°C / 16°C, Al-Bayda: 31°C / 16°C

Public Safety Recommendations

The meteorology center urges citizens in desert and coastal plains to avoid direct sun exposure during midday hours and to remain hydrated by consuming plenty of fluids. Motorists are cautioned to avoid riverbeds and valleys prone to flooding in areas expecting rainfall.

Marine Conditions

The daily marine report indicates calm seas along the coasts of Hadramout, Shabwa, Abyan, Aden, Bab al-Mandab, and the western coasts. However, moderate sea conditions are anticipated off the coast of Al-Mahra, while the Socotra Archipelago could experience moderate to rough seas. The regional waters in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea will see light waves, while the Arabian Sea will likely have moderate conditions. Fishermen and ship captains in the Socotra Archipelago, the Arabian Sea, and eastern coasts are advised to exercise caution due to potential sea disturbances and high waves.

Stay tuned for further updates as weather conditions evolve.
