Yemen urges global support for Palestine’s full UN membership bid.

Yemen Advocates for Full UN Membership for Palestine

Global Recognition and Support

In a significant move, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Riyad Al-Akbari, has called upon countries worldwide to recognize the State of Palestine and support its bid for full membership in the United Nations. During a meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of delegates, attended by ambassadors from Latin American and Caribbean countries accredited in Cairo and the Assistant Secretary-General and Head of International Affairs at the Arab League, Ambassador Khaled Al-Manzlawi, Al-Akbari praised nations that have acknowledged and supported the Palestinian people’s rights to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

A Legitimate and Natural Right

Al-Akbari highlighted that recognizing Palestine as an independent state is a legitimate and natural right of the Palestinian people, who have fought for over 75 years to achieve their legitimate rights, including freedom and statehood with East Jerusalem as its capital. He urged all friendly countries and international organizations to continue supporting the Palestinian cause and to strive for justice for a people suffering under occupation, genocide, settlement, and displacement.

Renewed Call to the International Community

The ambassador reiterated his call to the international community and the United Nations Security Council to enforce UN resolutions related to the Palestinian issue, compel the occupying entity to immediately comply with international legitimacy resolutions and the provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice, end its occupation of Palestinian territories, and immediately and completely cease its criminal warfare in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which is nearing its first anniversary.

Embodiment of Cooperation and Solidarity

Al-Akbari affirmed that the meeting symbolizes the spirit of cooperation and solidarity that has historically united Arab nations with the peoples of Latin America. The meeting coincides with preparations for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, aiming to bolster Palestine’s quest for full UN membership.

This initiative underscores Yemen’s active role in advocating for Palestine on the international stage, emphasizing the importance of global solidarity and action to address the long-standing issue of Palestinian statehood and rights.
