Yemen and Saudi Arabia Enter New Phase of Strategic Partnership

President Alimi Highlights New Phase in Yemen-Saudi Relations

In a recent interview with the Saudi newspaper Okaz, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, announced significant developments in Yemen-Saudi Arabia relations. He stated that both nations have embarked on a new phase of fruitful strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to rebuild Yemen’s state institutions, support recovery and stability, and enhance the country’s long-term economic, service, and developmental capabilities.

Promising Developments for Yemenis

President Alimi emphasized that the Yemeni populace will soon experience the tangible benefits of this partnership across various sectors. He attributed these advancements to the generous guidance of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Among the notable Saudi contributions is a new grant of $150 million for oil derivatives. The President described this grant as a continuation of Saudi Arabia’s steadfast support for the Yemeni people and their legitimate leadership. This funding is particularly aimed at alleviating citizens’ suffering and fulfilling essential service and economic commitments, especially in the electricity sector during the summer months.

Economic Impact Amidst Challenges

Alimi underscored the pivotal role of Saudi economic support in maintaining the integrity of state institutions. Despite the catastrophic consequences of Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and export ports, this support has enabled Yemen to meet its obligations efficiently.

Expressing gratitude, the President acknowledged the diligent follow-up by Prince Khalid bin Salman, Saudi Minister of Defense, and his team regarding Yemen’s situation. He specifically praised the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, overseen by Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber.

Success Stories in Development Projects

The Saudi program has emerged as a success story, having implemented over 280 projects across multiple sectors, including electricity, energy, roads, water, education, health, ports, airports, fisheries, agriculture, and institutional capacity building. Yemeni citizens are already witnessing the direct impact of these initiatives in their daily lives.

Furthermore, President Alimi acknowledged the humanitarian efforts spearheaded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. He highlighted the significance of the Masam project for mine clearance, which is essential for protecting civilians and clearing vast areas contaminated with explosives.

Comprehensive Reforms Underway

The new Saudi support coincides with comprehensive reforms led by the government under Dr. Sha’if Al-Zandani. These reforms, directly supervised by the Presidential Leadership Council, aim to enhance the efficiency of state institutions, improve services, and establish principles of governance and transparency.

President Alimi assured that the government is committed to managing this support with utmost responsibility and efficiency. This approach seeks to build on the noticeable improvements in handling commitments and grants from friendly nations, contributing to more sustainable solutions for Yemen’s electricity crisis.

Vision 2030 and Future Prospects

Looking forward, President Alimi noted that Yemen stands as one of the key beneficiaries of projects and investments under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. He emphasized that the benefits could have been more extensive were it not for the conflicts instigated by Houthi militias backed by the Iranian regime.

In conclusion, Alimi expressed optimism regarding the upcoming positive transformations. He reiterated that Saudi support is part of a comprehensive package aimed at rebuilding institutions and strengthening Yemen’s capabilities in the long run. The President urged patience as the full impact of this sincere support becomes evident, ultimately fulfilling the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
