The Republic of Yemen actively participated today in the extraordinary meeting of the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, held in Rabat, Morocco. The Yemeni delegation was led by Captain Saleh bin Naheed, the head of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology.
During the meeting, representatives from various Arab member states discussed ways to enhance collaborative efforts in civil aviation. Key topics included improving coordination among member countries to unify positions in international forums. Participants also reviewed previous recommendations from the General Assembly and assessed the organization’s performance and future plans.
Participants unanimously agreed to support Arab nominations for seats on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council during the upcoming session scheduled for September in Montreal, Canada. This decision underscores the importance of representing Arab nations in influential international bodies that shape aviation policies. Additionally, attendees emphasized the need to develop technical cooperation mechanisms, intensify joint training programs, and support efforts to standardize safety and security procedures in line with international standards.
The extraordinary meeting coincided with the 72nd session of the Executive Council of the organization, which commenced yesterday in Rabat. Over the next three days, the council will discuss topics related to enhancing Arab coordination in civil aviation and developing infrastructure and legislation to meet global requirements in this vital sector.
Yemen’s participation in both the Executive Council and the General Assembly reflects the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology’s commitment to strengthening the country’s presence in regional and international forums. This involvement aims to contribute to the integration of Arab efforts in the crucial field of civil aviation.
