Presidential Leadership Council Holds Key Meeting

On Monday, the Presidential Leadership Council convened under the leadership of President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi. The meeting included members Sultan Al-Aradah, Dr. Abdullah Alimi, Othman Majali, and Faraj Al-Bahsani, with Tarek Saleh and Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami joining via video conference. Member Aidarus Al-Zubaidi was absent with an excuse.

Welcoming the New Prime Minister

At the start of the meeting, which also included Prime Minister Salem Bin Brek, the Council congratulated the new Prime Minister on earning the trust of the leadership. The Council praised the efforts of his predecessor, Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, who led the government during complex local and regional circumstances.

Commitment to Teamwork and National Priorities

The Council expressed confidence in the Prime Minister and his cabinet, emphasizing the need for teamwork to address current challenges. Key priorities include mobilizing resources to restore state institutions, mitigate economic decline, and strengthen partnerships with allies in the Saudi-led coalition and other regional and international partners.

Support for Government Initiatives

The Presidential Leadership Council reaffirmed its commitment to support government efforts and facilitate the exercise of its full powers in accordance with the constitution and transitional frameworks. This includes adherence to the power transfer declaration and the regulations governing the Council’s operations.

The Council stressed the importance of the government’s consistent operation and the urgent need to address citizens’ concerns regarding essential services. It called for the completion of institutional reforms, activation of governance mechanisms, and a robust fight against terrorism and corruption.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister presented a general framework outlining his government’s priorities for the upcoming period. This framework focuses on economic and service sectors, as well as the necessary presidential, regional, and international support.

In a subsequent meeting, the Council, joined by Central Bank Governor Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Mabqi, Minister of Industry and Trade Mohammed Al-Ashwal, and Economic Team Leader Hossam Al-Sharjabi, discussed local and regional developments. They particularly addressed the economic, service, security, and humanitarian situations exacerbated by Houthi militia attacks on oil facilities and international shipping routes.

Updates on Economic Conditions

The Council received updates from the Prime Minister, Central Bank Governor, Minister of Industry and Trade, and Economic Team Leader regarding the current economic and service conditions in the temporary capital, Aden, and liberated provinces. They discussed coordinated efforts between the government and local authorities to improve fuel supplies and electricity generation capabilities, addressing critical sector imbalances.

Financial Performance and Policy Recommendations

The updates included financial and monetary performance indicators, currency exchange rates, and proposed policies to strengthen the government’s role in overcoming challenges and enhancing its resources and execution capabilities at both central and local levels.

Port Readiness and Humanitarian Efforts

Reports also covered the readiness of ports to receive oil derivatives and commercial imports, aiming to improve economic resources and alleviate humanitarian suffering across the country.

Ongoing Fight Against Terrorism

The meeting reviewed ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, smuggling, and organized crime. The Council commended the achievements of security and military agencies in deterring and controlling shipments of Iranian weapons to affiliated militias.

Commitment to Basic Services

The Council reiterated the state’s commitment to addressing service bottlenecks, improving resources, and supporting government and Central Bank measures to regain market control and eliminate monetary distortions.

Appreciation for International Support

In this context, the Council expressed gratitude for the continuous support from the Saudi-led coalition and donor community in addressing the developmental and humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people, as well as their aspirations for security, stability, development, and peace.

Military Readiness and Coordination

The Presidential Leadership Council also received updates on the operational situation across the battlefield, combat readiness levels, and shared information regarding the Council’s decision on unifying fronts. They discussed joint security and military efforts to deter Houthi aggressions and combat terrorism, highlighting the clear collaboration between terrorist organizations and Iranian-backed militias.

Conclusion of the Meeting

The Council reviewed the minutes of its previous meeting and approved them, taking several decisions regarding the issues and files included in its agenda.
