The Chairman of the Leadership Council emphasizes the need to intensify international pressure to undermine the war economy.

President Alimi Meets UK Ambassador to Discuss Bilateral Relations

On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed UK Ambassador Abda Sharif. The meeting focused on strengthening the ties between Yemen and the United Kingdom, alongside addressing local developments.

Advancements in State Institutions

During the discussion, President Alimi highlighted the ongoing progress within state institutions. He noted the enhancement of the legal framework in the temporary capital, Aden, and the continuous improvement in government effectiveness. The positive impacts on the currency market and basic commodity prices were also acknowledged. Furthermore, the President emphasized the need for regional and international support to sustain these improvements and complete comprehensive reform programs.

Addressing Security Threats

The meeting also addressed the persistent threats posed by Houthi militias, which continue to undermine international peace and security, with strong backing from the Iranian regime. President Alimi stressed the importance of increasing political, economic, and military pressure on the Houthis and their supporters. He advocated for utilizing sanctions as an effective deterrent to restore security, stability, and peace in Yemen and the broader region.

Commitment to International Unity

President Alimi reaffirmed the Presidential Leadership Council’s commitment to maintaining international unity. He underscored the significance of adhering to international legitimacy as a roadmap for rebuilding Yemen’s state institutions, disarming militias, and combating all forms of racism.

Strategic Partnerships for Stability

The President reiterated the Council’s and the government’s dedication to developing a constructive strategic partnership with both regional and international communities. This partnership aims to achieve security, stability, and peace while addressing the threats posed by terrorism to global trade and maritime routes.

Acknowledgment of Regional Support

President Alimi praised the role of the Saudi-led coalition in supporting legitimate governance. He recognized the contributions of the United Arab Emirates in strengthening state institutions and fulfilling essential commitments, thereby enhancing resilience at all levels.

Support from the United Kingdom

The President expressed gratitude for the UK’s supportive stance towards the legitimate government in the United Nations Security Council. He acknowledged the UK’s role in bolstering the capabilities of the Central Bank and public finances, as well as institutional development. He called for increased support, particularly in humanitarian response plans, to assist the government in its economic battle and improve living conditions. This support is crucial for undermining the war economy and combating terrorism and organized crime.

Conclusion

The meeting concluded with the presence of Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, who contributed to the discussions on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing pressing challenges in Yemen.
