The Republic of Yemen actively participated today in the eighth meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Standardization of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held in Doha, Qatar. The Yemeni delegation was led by Minister of Industry and Trade, Mohammed Al-Ashwal, who is also a member of the committee.
During the meeting, attendees reviewed a report from the GCC Standardization Authority detailing the progress made from April to September 2024. The committee discussed a memorandum from the authority regarding the approval of Gulf technical regulations and their amendments. Additionally, they addressed the costs associated with certifying compliance certificates and examined updates on the status of the Gulf Accreditation Center.
The committee approved ten Gulf technical regulations while withdrawing six others. Furthermore, they endorsed 519 Gulf standard specifications. These decisions aim to unify and enhance various standardization activities, ensuring their effective implementation in collaboration with standardization bodies across member states. This concerted effort seeks to promote intra-regional trade, consumer protection, and public health.
Following the meeting, Minister Al-Ashwal toured the second Gulf Industrial Exhibition, which took place alongside the meeting. He explored the latest innovations from factories in the manufacturing sector, including production lines designed to facilitate industrial development and improve access to regional markets.
The meeting also included the participation of Engineer Hadeed Al-Mas, Executive Director of the Yemeni Authority for Standards and Quality Control, as well as Moath Al-Toumi, Secretary to the Minister of Industry and Trade.
