Yemen Participates in Eighth Meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council Standards Committee

The Republic of Yemen actively participated today in the eighth meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Standardization of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held in Doha, Qatar. The Yemeni delegation was led by Minister of Industry and Trade, Mohammed Al-Ashwal, who is also a member of the committee.

Key Discussions on Standardization Progress

During the meeting, attendees reviewed a report from the GCC Standardization Authority detailing the progress made from April to September 2024. The committee discussed a memorandum from the authority regarding the approval of Gulf technical regulations and their amendments. Additionally, they addressed the costs associated with certifying compliance certificates and examined updates on the status of the Gulf Accreditation Center.

Approval of Technical Regulations and Standards

The committee approved ten Gulf technical regulations while withdrawing six others. Furthermore, they endorsed 519 Gulf standard specifications. These decisions aim to unify and enhance various standardization activities, ensuring their effective implementation in collaboration with standardization bodies across member states. This concerted effort seeks to promote intra-regional trade, consumer protection, and public health.
