Minister Launches Professional Competency Exams for Healthcare Workers

ADEN, Yemen – Today, Dr. Qassem Baheeb, the Minister of Public Health and Population, officially launched the professional competency exams organized by the Higher Medical Council. The event took place in the temporary capital of Aden and included participation from various medical and health professionals across the country.

Importance of Competency Exams

During the launch, attended by Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, the Undersecretary for Primary Health Care, and Dr. Ishraq Al-Sabahi, the Assistant Undersecretary for the Ministry of Health, Minister Baheeb emphasized that these exams serve as a crucial foundation for improving healthcare services. He praised the council’s efforts to enhance examination mechanisms and expand their reach, despite the ongoing challenges facing the nation.

Collaboration Between Institutions

Dr. Al-Khadr Nasser Lsoor, President of Aden University, highlighted the significance of collaboration between academic and professional institutions. This partnership directly contributes to improving the quality of medical and health outputs while enhancing both academic and professional performance.

Exam Participation and Structure

Dr. Omar Zain, President of the Higher Medical Council, reported that a total of 2,779 candidates registered for the competency exams, covering 32 medical and health specialties. The exams will take place in 11 internal and external testing centers, ensuring that Yemeni professionals abroad have the opportunity to participate.

Enhanced Examination Processes

Dr. Zain noted that the exams have seen advancements in execution and monitoring through the use of transparent examination systems. These improvements aim to ensure fairness and integrity among candidates, marking a new phase of professional governance in Yemen’s medical and health professions.

Goals of the Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health aims to enhance competency and specialization through these professional competency exams. This initiative is part of a comprehensive national framework to reform and develop the healthcare sector in Yemen, ultimately raising the quality of services provided to citizens.
