The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Yemen has expressed strong condemnation regarding the Colombian government’s decision to open its embassy in occupied Jerusalem. The ministry views this action as a blatant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions, undermining the legal and historical status of the holy city.
In a statement, the ministry emphasized that respecting the sovereignty of nations and the integrity of their territories is a fundamental principle of international law. It highlighted that any actions aimed at altering the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem lack legitimacy and contradict United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly resolutions 476 and 478 from 1980.
The ministry reaffirmed Yemen’s unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to establish an independent state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the international community, especially the Security Council, to fulfill its responsibilities and enforce its resolutions regarding Palestine. It called for a rejection of unilateral actions that undermine the prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive peace in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
