UN reports three civilians killed or injured by landmine explosions in Al Hudaydah during September.

UN Mission Reports Civilian Casualties from Landmines in Al Hudaydah, Yemen

On Thursday, the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) announced two tragic incidents related to landmines and unexploded ordnance in Al Hudaydah, a province in western Yemen. These incidents occurred in September and resulted in the deaths of a man and a woman, while another civilian sustained injuries.

Ongoing Threat of Explosive Devices

UNMHA highlighted that Yemen continues to face significant dangers from explosive devices. The province of Al Hudaydah remains one of the most affected areas due to past violent conflicts and the ongoing struggle along the front lines in the southern part of the region. The presence of these hazardous materials poses a persistent threat to civilian safety.

Rising Casualty Numbers

With these recent incidents, the total number of casualties in Al Hudaydah has risen to 30 fatalities and 42 injuries since the beginning of this year, according to UNMHA statistics. The continuous toll emphasizes the urgent need for demining efforts and increased safety measures to protect civilians in the region.

The situation in Al Hudaydah remains critical, and the international community must prioritize efforts to address the dangers posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance. Ensuring the safety of civilians in conflict-affected areas is paramount as Yemen continues to navigate the challenges of ongoing violence and instability.
