UN reports a woman killed and a child injured in two landmine explosions in Al Hudaydah last month.

UN Reports Civilian Casualties Due to Landmines in Hodeidah

The United Nations Mission in Hodeidah (UNMHA) reported two incidents involving landmines and unexploded ordnance in the western Yemeni governorate during October. These incidents resulted in the tragic death of one woman and injured one child.

Details of the Incidents

In its monthly report published on its official website, UNMHA specified that both incidents occurred in the districts of Al-Hudaydah and Hays. The mission highlighted the ongoing dangers posed by explosive remnants of war in the region.

Ongoing Threats in Hodeidah

UNMHA emphasized that Yemen continues to suffer significantly from explosive materials. The governorate of Hodeidah remains one of the most affected areas due to previous intense fighting and the ongoing conflict along the southern frontlines.

Rising Civilian Casualties

As a result of these recent incidents, the total number of civilian casualties in Hodeidah has risen to 31 deaths and 43 injuries since the beginning of this year, according to cumulative statistics from the UN mission. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for increased safety measures and demining efforts in the region.

The situation in Hodeidah highlights the critical challenges faced by civilians amid ongoing conflict and the lingering threat of landmines.
