Presidents Discuss Yemen's Situation and Regional Developments

On Monday, President Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Their discussions focused on the bilateral relations between Yemen and Egypt, as well as mutual interests. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 12th World Urban Forum, held in Cairo.

Key Topics Addressed

The two leaders addressed significant developments concerning Yemen and the broader regional context. They discussed the economic and security implications of ongoing tensions in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Additionally, they explored efforts aimed at de-escalating conflicts and restoring international navigation security.

President Alimi updated President El-Sisi on the latest regional and international mediation efforts to initiate a political process under the United Nations’ auspices. He emphasized the Yemeni government’s openness to various initiatives aimed at achieving peace, based on previously agreed-upon references, particularly UN Resolution 2216. This resolution remains crucial for a comprehensive solution.

Support for Yemen

President Alimi praised Egypt’s supportive stance towards the Presidential Leadership Council, the Yemeni government, and the Yemeni people. He highlighted the importance of restoring state institutions and achieving peace, stability, and development in Yemen.

In a gesture of gratitude, President Alimi thanked Egypt for its generous hospitality towards hundreds of thousands of Yemenis who have sought refuge from the violence inflicted by Houthi militias and the devastating effects of war.

Development and Urban Forum Success

President Alimi congratulated President El-Sisi on Egypt’s impressive developmental and urban achievements. He expressed his confidence that the World Urban Forum would serve as a significant event, contributing to global discussions on urbanization and development.

Egypt’s Commitment to Yemen

In response, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Yemen’s unity and stability. He endorsed international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution in Yemen. He underscored the importance of Yemen’s security and stability for Egypt, as well as its critical role in the security of the Arab region and the Red Sea, especially amid the current security tensions.

The meeting included several key figures, such as Dr. Shae’ Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Khaled Mahfouz Bahah, Yemen’s Ambassador to Egypt. On the Egyptian side, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel-Aty also attended.

This dialogue reflects the ongoing commitment of both nations to work together for peace and stability in Yemen and the region.
