A recent UN report highlights the ongoing arrival of African migrants in Yemen despite escalating conflict. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) recorded 11,841 migrants arriving in September 2023.
The report indicates that 71% of these migrants traveled from the coasts of Djibouti, landing in Abyan and Taiz. Meanwhile, 26% arrived from the coasts of Somalia to Shabwa, and 3% came from Oman to Al-Mahra.
The demographic breakdown shows that 70% of the migrants are men, while 15% are children and 15% are women.
The IOM noted that the total number of migrants who reached Yemen since the beginning of January 2023 has reached 134,099. This influx continues as tens of thousands seek better economic conditions or flee conflicts in their home countries.
