During the 28th session of the Arab Tourism Ministers Council, held in Baghdad, Iraq, the council elected Tunis as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2027. This prestigious designation highlights Tunisia’s commitment to enhancing its tourism sector.
The Tunisian Ministry of Tourism and Traditional Industries announced that Tunisia also secured a position on the executive office and will serve as the deputy president. This appointment comes as part of the council’s efforts to renew its structures and enhance collaboration among member states.
The ministry emphasized that this recognition reflects the unique cultural attributes of Tunisia’s capital. Tunis is renowned for its arts, crafts, heritage, and urban creativity. Additionally, the city joined UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network in 2026, further solidifying its status as a cultural hub.
Tunisian Tourism Minister Sofiane Taqia stated that the country has focused on developing its tourism infrastructure in recent years. Efforts include enhancing digital capabilities, promoting tourism through modern communication channels, and utilizing artificial intelligence. The government also supports investment in high-quality services, luxury hotels, and startups within the tourism sector.
