President Donald Trump has announced that the United States and Iran may sign a peace agreement next week in Europe. If finalized, this agreement could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end a three-month conflict that has resulted in thousands of deaths and a sharp rise in global energy prices.
Trump described the agreement as a “fantastic settlement.” He indicated that Vice President J.D. Vance would represent the United States during the signing. This announcement follows the cancellation of plans for new U.S. strikes on Iran, coinciding with significant progress in indirect talks between the two nations.
According to Iranian and Western sources, negotiations are gaining momentum despite some unresolved issues, such as the mechanism for releasing frozen Iranian funds. Leaks suggest that the agreement will temporarily ease Iran’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz and lift the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports. However, discussions regarding nuclear issues will be postponed for future negotiations.
Trump confirmed that the agreement has received “the highest level” of approval from Iranian leadership. Additionally, several Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Israel, have expressed their support. He noted that the maritime blockade would remain in effect until the agreement is officially signed.
Following this announcement, oil prices experienced a significant drop, while stock markets saw a notable increase. This decline in oil prices underscores the direct impact of political developments on the global market.
