Recent traffic accidents have led to the tragic deaths of 75 individuals and left 339 others injured. Among the injured, 197 people sustained serious injuries. The financial losses from these incidents amount to a staggering 1.652 billion Riyals.
According to daily reports from the General Traffic Police Department, the same period recorded a total of 379 traffic accidents across various liberated regions and provinces. These accidents included 192 vehicle collisions, 114 pedestrian incidents, 50 vehicle rollovers, 12 collisions with fixed objects, and 11 falls from vehicles.
The report attributes these traffic accidents to several violations of road safety regulations. Key factors include speeding, overloading, improper and dangerous overtaking, distractions while driving, fatigue, and ignoring traffic signals and instructions from traffic officers. Additionally, neglecting vehicle maintenance, reckless motorcycle riding, and pedestrian carelessness while crossing roads contributed to the high accident rates.
The General Traffic Police have reported a total of 3,104 different traffic violations across the provinces. This alarming number highlights the urgent need for increased awareness and adherence to road safety laws to prevent further tragedies.
The rising number of traffic accidents and their severe consequences underscore the importance of road safety. Authorities must take immediate action to address these issues and promote safer driving practices among all road users.
