A young man in his twenties tragically lost his life on Friday in a town within Ibb Governorate, marking a grim increase in traffic-related fatalities in the region. This incident raises the total number of casualties from traffic accidents in Ibb during January to over 30, including both fatalities and injuries.
Local sources report that the victim, identified as Mohannad Rayan Abdullah Saleh Al-Mubarazi, died after his motorcycle collided with a car at the Habish intersection in the Al-Makhader district, located in northern Ibb. Al-Mubarazi hailed from the Sharaf area within the same district.
Throughout January, Ibb Governorate recorded a total of 34 civilian deaths due to various traffic accidents, which included women and children. The breakdown of these casualties reveals 21 fatalities and 13 injuries, with 20 of these incidents occurring in the last three days of the month. Additionally, around 10 other residents from Ibb lost their lives in similar accidents in other Yemeni cities and in Saudi Arabia.
Ibb Governorate has witnessed a disturbing rise in traffic accidents, particularly those involving motorcycles. Contributing factors include deteriorating road conditions, a lack of traffic regulations, and drivers’ failure to adhere to road safety rules. Authorities must address these issues to enhance road safety and prevent further tragedies.
