The Yemeni Women’s Empowerment Foundation (YWEF) reported 491 violations committed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia against civilians in Taiz Governorate from October 14 to October 22, 2026.
In its report titled “Taiz in a Week,” the foundation detailed that Houthi attacks, including rocket and artillery shelling, sniper fire, landmines, and assaults on homes and residential neighborhoods, resulted in the deaths of 130 civilians and injuries to 181 others.
The report highlighted 68 cases of abduction, 74 home raids, and damage to 52 homes and 29 civilian vehicles. Additionally, the Houthis launched 356 projectiles, including 9 ballistic missiles targeting the districts of Sabir Al-Mawadim, Al-Masrak, Al-Shamayatain, Al-Waziyah, and residential areas in the city of Taiz.
The report documented the deaths and injuries of several women and children due to Houthi shelling. Among the victims was a girl named Maya Maher Mahmoud Haza, who died when the Houthis targeted her family’s home in the Kahlān village in Mount Sabir. The report also noted civilian casualties from shelling in the Sinaa neighborhood in western Taiz.
The report emphasized an attack on an ambulance in the Al-Sarari area of the Sabir Al-Mawadim district, which led to the deaths of paramedic Hussam Al-Naimani and a girl named Tayba Abdulqareeb Abdu. A doctor accompanying them sustained injuries, and the ambulance was destroyed while performing a humanitarian mission.
The foundation documented sniper attacks targeting women and children inside their homes. Victims included a girl named Najma Walid Abdu Saif and two women, Rahma Abdullah and Amal Kamal, who fell victim to Houthi sniper fire in various areas of the governorate.
The report confirmed that the violations included home invasions, theft of property, and assaults on women and the elderly. One incident involved the invasion of an elderly woman’s home in the Al-Salu district, where her belongings were stolen before she was found murdered.
The Yemeni Women’s Empowerment Foundation stated that the documented crimes represent serious violations of international humanitarian law and human rights. The foundation held Houthi leaders fully accountable for these actions.
The organization urged the United Nations and the international community to take urgent action to protect civilians, halt shelling and sniper attacks, ensure the safety of ambulances and medical teams, and conduct independent investigations to hold those responsible for these crimes accountable while providing justice for the victims and their families.
