The U.S. Department of State announced new sanctions on Tuesday targeting an international network that facilitates the smuggling of millions of barrels of Iranian oil. These sanctions aim to disrupt the flow of revenue used for developing ballistic missiles, drones, and supporting terrorist groups, including the Houthi militia.
State Department spokesperson Tami Bruce stated in a press release, "Today, Washington imposed sanctions on an international network that facilitates the shipment of millions of barrels of Iranian crude oil, valued at billions of dollars, to China. This operation is conducted on behalf of the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff and its front company, Sepehr Energy."
Bruce further explained that the proceeds from these oil sales contribute to the development of ballistic missiles and drones, the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and the support of Iran’s terrorist proxies. This includes the Houthis’ attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
Tami Bruce emphasized that the United States will continue to take actions that exert maximum pressure on the Iranian regime. The goal is to deny Iran access to resources that fuel its destabilizing activities in the region.
These sanctions reflect the U.S. government’s ongoing commitment to countering Iran’s influence and ensuring regional stability. By targeting the financial networks that support military and terrorist operations, the U.S. aims to mitigate threats to international security.
