Yemeni Parliament Speaker Meets South Korean Ambassador

On Monday, Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani, the Speaker of the Yemeni Parliament, held a meeting with Bong Kai Do, the South Korean Ambassador to Yemen. This meeting focused on the latest developments in Yemen and the enhancement of bilateral relations between the two nations.

Discussing Humanitarian and Development Efforts

During their discussion, al-Barakani and Ambassador Do addressed the humanitarian and developmental roles that both countries can play. They emphasized the importance of international efforts to establish peace, stability, and reconstruction in Yemen. The Speaker expressed his pride in the 40-year history of diplomatic relations between Yemen and South Korea, highlighting a mutual commitment to strengthen ties and explore new opportunities for cooperation.

Addressing Yemen’s Current Challenges

Al-Barakani outlined the severe humanitarian and economic challenges Yemen faces due to the ongoing conflict, particularly the actions of the Houthi militia. He pointed out the dire situation for the Yemeni people, noting the increasing instances of abduction, violence, and displacement. The Speaker condemned the Houthi militia’s punitive policies against civilians, which include targeting women, children, journalists, and international aid workers.

South Korea’s Support for Yemen

The Speaker acknowledged South Korea’s positive role in supporting Yemen’s future development programs. He specifically mentioned areas such as education, vocational training, information technology, and renewable energy projects. Al-Barakani praised South Korea’s commitment to assist Yemen in overcoming various challenges and reaffirmed that South Korea stands firmly against the Houthi coup.

Commitment to Continued Partnership

In response, Ambassador Do reiterated South Korea’s commitment to providing humanitarian and developmental support to the Yemeni people. He expressed South Korea’s dedication to enhancing partnerships and expanding cooperation in ways that benefit both nations. The ambassador also outlined plans for future support, emphasizing the importance of coordinating with relevant authorities to identify urgent priorities.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and South Korea, reflecting a shared vision for stability and progress in the region.
