On Thursday, Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Brek welcomed Jassim Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). During the meeting, Al-Budaiwi congratulated the Prime Minister on his appointment to lead the Yemeni government during these exceptional circumstances. He expressed his wishes for the Prime Minister’s success and reaffirmed the GCC’s support for the government in fulfilling its responsibilities to the Yemeni people.
The discussion focused on the strategic partnership between Yemen and the GCC, emphasizing priority areas for support that align with the current exceptional needs. The Prime Minister and Al-Budaiwi explored how the GCC can lead efforts to direct assistance in line with the government’s urgent priorities. They also highlighted the importance of continuing the GCC’s active role in supporting the Yemeni people during this critical period.
The Prime Minister exchanged views with the GCC Secretary-General on recent local, regional, and international developments. They discussed shared positions on ongoing efforts to restore state authority, end the Iranian-backed Houthi coup, and secure international navigation.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Al-Budaiwi for his congratulations and for the steadfast support of the GCC member states for the Yemeni government and its people. He emphasized the need for extraordinary efforts to overcome existing challenges. The Prime Minister noted the GCC’s pivotal role in mobilizing support for the Yemeni government to address urgent priorities, including halting economic and service deterioration, alleviating citizen suffering, and restoring economic recovery.
The Prime Minister praised the GCC’s support for the Yemeni government in navigating recent developments across various sectors. He stressed the importance of reorganizing cooperation files according to pressing priorities. He also addressed the challenges posed by the cessation of crude oil exports due to Houthi terrorist attacks and outlined the government’s plans to manage these issues, along with the support needed from GCC allies and Yemen’s development partners.
In response, Al-Budaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s commitment to standing alongside the Yemeni people in all circumstances. He emphasized the importance of restoring Yemen’s security and stability and placing it on a path toward sustainable development, ensuring that the Yemeni people can live with dignity, peace, and security.
Al-Budaiwi reiterated the GCC’s support for the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to enhance security and stability in Yemen. He confirmed the GCC’s commitment to supporting all international and regional initiatives, including those led by the United Nations, aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in accordance with the three reference points.
The meeting also included the Prime Minister’s advisor, Ambassador Mujib Othman, and the head of the Prime Minister’s technical team, Jamal bin Ghanem.
